Dr. Hillel M. Finestone, MD, physiatrist, is a "pain detective" who has been treating patients with acute and chronic pain for many years and whose work has been featured in publications as diverse as The Lancet and USA Today.

Dr. Finestone will explain how he works and relay why it may be necessary to unearth details beyond those that are physically manifested to truly comprehend a persistent painful condition. He has noted that many clinical conditions are complicated and involved. "Retrieving clues and key bits of information to create a whole diagnostic picture is my holy grail," says Finestone.

By using real case studies Dr. Finestone will provide deep insight into the complex relationship between pain and the interplay of physical, psychological and social factors and how those factors influence health and healing — for better or worse. The key to understanding causes and solutions for many apparently mysterious, recurring aches lies in understanding the mind-body relationship and the "real meaning" behind symptoms.

An Associate Professor at the faculty of medicine of the University of Ottawa, Dr. Finestone, a McGill University medical graduate, is also a Fellow of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and of the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine. He is the author of the new book entitled THE PAIN DETECTIVE, Every Ache Tells a Story (Praeger/September 2009), currently one of Amazon.ca's top-selling titles.

Dr. Finestone will read selections from his book. More information is available from www.thepaindetective.com
